Dr. Heber Varela is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular medicine. He has 10 years of experience in general adult neurology with special interest in electromyography (EMG) and neuromuscular disorders. Dr. Varela completed his residency in Neurology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He then completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Mayo Clinic school of Medicine in Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Varela is a former assistant Professor of Neurology, Associate Program Director of the residency program and Director of the Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at the University of South Florida where he participated in a multidisciplinary ALS clinic. He then practiced as a hospitalist and General Neurologist at Baptist Health South Florida (Baptist Hospital, West Kendall Baptist Hospital and South Miami Hospital) He also has functioned as a Principal Investigator in multiple Industry and NIH sponsored clinical trials, including Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
